Gauntlet

For this project, I am creating a gauntlet out of card stock.  I am hoping to create the gauntlet out of metal at some point as was intended by pattern / tutorial I used (http://www.davidjguyton.com/).  Right now I'm working on the version 1 gauntlet but would love to try version 2 at some point as well (I got both patterns).  I wouldn't mind making his futuristic gauntlet at some point as well, however, I haven't gotten that pattern yet.

I've started assembling the glove but I think I'm going to take it apart and use a different pair of gloves to attach the pieces too.  The one I have was just temporary to see how the project would go but the glove is too stretchy and makes it hard to continue attaching the paper armor pieces.  Once I get a new (cheap) pair of gloves I'll continue and post more pics.  :)

Got part of the hand and wrist assembled (using thumb tacks to hold the pieces in place - they act as rivets so that the gauntlet can still bend freely)

Green Lantern Mask

For this project, I intend to create a Green Lantern mask out of pepakura using card stock and when I get the bondo applied and sanded I want to cast the mask in plastic since I've never done so.  Most of these beginning projects that I'm doing are so I can learn different techniques for making cosplay costumes.

So far I have:

• cut the pepakura template out of card stock
• folded the pieces in preparation for being glued
• hot glued the pepakura pieces together

Next steps:

• resin both sides
• fiberglass
• bondo
• sand
• primer
• make mold
• cast mask
• make adjustments
• paint
• optional: finish original mask (paint)

Template is mostly cut out (I forgot to take a before pic so I set the cut pieces back in the spots where I cut them out.... oops =X)

Iron Man Arc Reactor

This is my first attempt at creating the Iron Man Arc Reactor.  I think it came out pretty well for a first attempt.

I'll add some more information about the steps and materials later.  :)

I used Stealth's tutorial from The Hero Tutorials YouTube channel:

Just stripped the end of the LED wires and twisted them together with the 9v battery connector

Molded, sanded and drilled the base plate and molded the ring for the light to shine through using friendly plastic pellets and a heat gun

Ichigo's Hollow Mask from Bleach: Very first cosplay piece ever!!

This is the first blog I've done in a long time so it may be a little bumpy as I feel my way through it. Here are the first few pictures of my Ichigo Hollow mask progress. I'll continue to post updates as I make progress.

So far I've completed:

• the card stock pepakura mask
• coating both sides in resin (Smooth-On Smooth-Cast 321) 
• adding fiberglass cloth to the inside to strengthen it
• applying bondo 
• sanding
• a coat of primer

Next steps:

• filling the imperfections
• sanding down the filler
• another coat of primer
• white paint
• paint details

Phase 2 - Resin and Fiberglass!

Phase 3 - Bondo, Sanding and Painting!

Bondo applied - not as smooth as I'd hoped but it was my first time using it

Some sanding done on the 1st layer of bondo

2nd layer of bondo applied to help smooth out the mask

Sprayed with some primer to see how it looks

Used some spot filler to smooth out some of the dips and whatnot.  Will do some more sanding and see if I need to fill more...
